Ahh yes tzatziki! It is a must have condiment for so many greek recipes! And you’re in luck because I have a simple homemade dairy free version for you! Yup easy vegan tzatziki!

I have been making tzatziki sauce for years an vegenizing my recipe was a breeze I basically just switched out greek yogurt for non dairy coconut yogurt (not sour cream!) It’s ready in no time! No cashews or tofu needed! You'll love it with my Vegan Gyros, mmm! and it can be enjoyed all year round, February, March or December -anytime!

What are the ingredients in vegan tzatziki?

Super simple ingredients folks! They are plant based dairy free coconut yogurt, grated cucumbers, lemon juice, dill pickle juice! - say what? Trust me its good! Fresh garlic, salt and pepper, pinch of granulated onion and garlic and an optional splash of vegan Worcestershire sauce (really good too if you have some kicking around in your fridge)

How do you make Vegan Tzatziki?

First grate a long English cucumber and place in a strainer over a bowl. Grab a handful at a time and squeeze out as much liquid as you can. Add to a medium mixing bowl as you go. No need for a food processor!

Add remaining ingredients and mix everything together. Season with more salt and pepper to taste if necessary and or lemon juice if needed for more zip. Drizzle with olive oil and some fresh chopped dill if you like. Serve right away or refrigerate for later to let the flavours meld and to thicken more. Where can you buy dairy free yogurt for tzatziki?

A lot of grocery stores carry different brands of dairy free yogurt now. I usually buy mine at Walmart. Look for non dairy greek yogurt! The creamier the yogurt the better the tztaziki sauce!

Ingredients

  • ½ long English cucumber, grated
  • 1 and ½ cups unsweetened non dairy plain yogurt, I use cultured coconut yogurt
  • 1 small garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1-2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tablespoon dill pickle juice
  • ½-1 teaspoon vegan Worecestershire sauce (optional but tasty if you have it!)
  • 1 and ½ teaspoons dried dill or 1 tablespoon or so of fresh chopped dill
  • ¼ teaspoon each granulated garlic and onion
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (plus more to taste at end if needed)
  • pinch of black pepper

Optional for serving:

  • drizzle of olive oil
  • cracked black pepper
  • fresh chopped dill

Instructions

Notes

  • I find 1 clove of garlic plenty but if you want more of a garlic hit add more!
  • adjust lemon juice if you like more of a zip to your sauce
  • The creamier the yogurt the better the tztaziki sauce! so if you can find a dairy free greek yogurt all the better!

    Just made this and looooved it! Used three cloves garlic, added fresh and dried dill and had to use almond milk yogurt as that was the only plain non-dairy yogurt I could find at three grocery stores. I printed this out to go in my family recipe book! There were so many generic recipes out there, glad I found yours!
