DeVaney died Thursday at his home from a lengthy illness. He was born March 22, 1900, at Reklaw, and was a member of Rusk Church of Christ. He was a former deacon of the Southeast Church of Christ in Houston 30 years and a member of East Gate Masonic Lodge of Houston. He was a resident of Houston 49 years, a tool inspector 34 years for Hughes Tools Co. of Houston and a resident of Rusk for three years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth DeVaney, Rusk; two daughters, Barbara Osborn, Houston, and Susan Dossett, Hattiesburg, and five grandchildren. Complaint Due Mineola Board' MINEOLA A complaint from an employee of the Mineola Independent School District was scheduled to be heard in executive session late Thursday night. Dr. B.R. Knight, superintendent for MISD, refused comment on the nature of the complaint before the meeting. Death Don Sleet LOS ANGELES IAP) Don Sleet, 48, a jazz musician who was named Downbeat magazine's trumpeter of the year in the 1950s, died Dec. 31 of cancer.

a Sleet began performing with Stan Kenton's band in 1953 and went on to appear with the Lighthouse All Stars, the Shelly Manne All Stars and the San Diego Philharmonic. The magazine recognized him trumpeter of the year from 1956 through 1958. Duncan Ross LOS ANGELES (AP) Duncan Ross, a director whose career led from the Old Vic School in London to the Division of Drama at the University of Southern California, died Sunday of cancer. He was 68. Ross is credited with helping introduce the works of playwright Harold Pinter to England when he directed the Old Vic School from 1954 to 1961.

In 1962, Ross became professor of drama at the University of Washington in Seattle. He was also director of the Seattle Repertory Theater. Roy L. If desired, memorials may be made to University of Texas Health Center or Grace Community Church. 4 Memorial services are scheduled Sunday in Tyler for two men who disappeared in the Rio Grande Saturday, as two specially trained dogs arrived in South Texas Thursday to help locate the bodies of Ross Buford and Scott Dodgen. A memorial service for Buford is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday in All Saints Episcopal Church. A memorial service for Dodgen is scheduled for 2 p.m, Sunday in Marvin United Methodist Church.

Search efforts for Buford, Denver, and Dodgen, Tyler, both 24, were limited to boats on the river Thursday because of, inclement weather and because the area where officials believe the men disappeared has been thoroughly searched, officials said. The bad weather also prevented Tyler Police Chief Larry Robinson, who has been participating in the search, from returning to the search scene until Thursday afternoon, a Val Verde County Sheriff's deputy said. Robinson took a leave of absence, from his city duties to participate in the search and has acted as a liaison between the victims' families and South Texas authorities. "The weather was so bad today we couldn't even fly an airplane," Val Verde County Sheriff's Deputy Johnnie Burns said. Mike Morris, district supervisor for Del Rio game wardens, said div- ing and dragging the river have ceased and officials are waiting for the bodies to surface.

"We are only searching now for the bodies as they float," Morris said. Two dogs specially trained to work in recovery efforts arrived on the scene Thursday and will begin searching for the men Friday, Burns said. Mr. Westbrooks was a native of Tyler and attended W.A. Peete School, Emmett Scott High School and Butler College. He worked in California from 1942 through 1979 when he returned to Tyler. In 1943 until 1945 he was in the Merchant Marines.

Mr. Williams died Wednesday In a Tyler hospital after a short illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Charlotte, Texas. He lived in Mineola 13 years, moving there fron Omaha, Neb.

He was a retired district director for the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Omaha, Neb. He served in the Army Air Corps, was a member of the First United Mlethodist Church in Mineola, a member of the Cage Bible Class at the church, and was a member of Mineola Masonic Lodge No. 502, where he served as secretary. He was a member of Mineola Council No. 258 and was presently serving as recorder.

He was a member of Mineola Chapter 322 and was serving as secretary. He was a life sponsor of the Ascension Comman-dry No. 25, was a member of the Sharon Shrine Temple in Tyler and was a member of Mineola Optimist Club. Annie D. Taylor, 77, Quitman, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Asmussen-Cain Funeral Home chapel in Quitman with the Revs. Fred Morrow and Melvin Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery near Winnsboro.

Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday in a Quitman hospital from a short illness. She was born May 11, 1909, in Wood County and was a past matron of Eastern Star chapter No. 695 in Quitman. She was a member of Women's Auxiliary of Shriners and Scottish Rite and a member of past matrons.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, C. Ray Taylor, Quitman; a daughter, Drucilla Taylor Zoch, Maple-ton, a son-in-law, J. Cecil Zoch, Mapleton, three sisters, Arvie Caldwell, Quitman, Lois Tinney, Winnsboro, and Mary Johnson, Seagoville; and two grandchildren, Vincent Zoch, Gar- land, and Kevin Zoch, Oklahoma City. Pallbearers will be A.D.

Kay, J.R. Bailey, Loyd Avant, Bryan Corneluis, Lee Kennard, Curtis Baker, Bob Kirbo and Bobby Jack Brown. Mrs. Kathy Ahmed WINNSBORO Services for Mrs. Kathy Koch Ahmed, 36, Route 5, Winnsboro, are scheduled for 2 p.m.

Saturday in McCrary-Ed-wards-Cain Funeral chapel in Winnsboro, with the Revs. Larry Gilbert and Charles Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro. Mrs. Ahmed died Thursday in a Winnsboro hospital from a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Memphis, and was a computer programmer for IBM. She was a Baptist and a graduate of Bryan High School in Dallas and University of Texas at Arlington and United Computer College of Houston. Survivors include her husband, Mohammed Hamada Ahmed, Route 5, Winnsboro; her father and mother, Rudy and Holly Bouland, Winnsboro; a son, Yusef El Aziz Ahmed, Winnsboro; a brother, Joseph Koch, Winnsboro; a stepbrother, Dale Bouland, Royce City; a sister, Vicki Koch Janway, Wylie; a half-sister, Becky Bouland Clark, Winnsboro; and a stepsister, Lea-tha Bouland Byrd, Paducah, Ky. Pallbearers will be David Janway, Michael Birdsong, Jim Bouland, Dennis O'Conner, Atef Hassan and Rick Farkasofski.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Byrd and Harvey Dodd. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Memorial Fund of Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro. Lester Hill HENDERSON Services for Hill, 74, Seabrook, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home chapel in Henderson.

Burial will be in Mason Ceme- tery. Mr. Hill died Thursday in a Clear Lake hospital from a lengthy illness. He was born July 15, 1913, in Taylor and was a 25-year Seabrook resident. He was a retired salesman for the import and export business.

He was a Methodist and was in World War II Army Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Hill, Seabrook; a daughter Mrs. Sandi McKie, Baytown; a sis- 1 ter, Laura Feagin, Houston; and a granddaughter, Lenora McKie, Baytown. i.
