As we undertake to follow Christ, we will surely encounter opposition and resistance. Even when the stakes are relatively low, social pressure is a powerful force, and it is easy to buckle under that pressure.

Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.
🎶 K A R A O K E V I D E O : "Dare to Do Right"
➤ P R E P A R A T I O N
You will need a blanket, and some empty and accessible wall space (like in a hallway).
➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N
Have two adults (or tall children) hold up the blanket vertically so that it hangs between them like a curtain and touches the ground. Tell children that the blanket represents a wall.
Invite children one at a time to see if they can push their way through the “wall” and pass through to the other side.
Now ask the following questions:
1) Was it easy to push this wall out of the way? (Yes.)
2) Did the wall move when you pushed it? (Yes.)
3) Was it a weak wall or a strong wall? (Weak.)
4) Do you think this wall would be very good for protecting something important? (No.)
Next, invite children to go with you to the empty wall space that you have chosen for the activity. Invite children to stand next to the wall and try as hard as they can to push the real wall out of the way! Let them attempt this and struggle at it for a minute or so, then ask the children to sit down and discuss the following questions.
1) Was it easy to push THIS wall out of the way? (No!)
2) Did the wall even move a little? (No!)
3) Was it a weak wall or a strong wall? (Strong.)
4) Do you think this wall would be good for protecting something important? (Yes!)
Say the following: “Did you know your heart can be just like that strong wall? If someone makes fun of you for believing in Jesus Christ… Or if someone is angry at you or mean to you because you want to keep the commandments... Or if someone tries to get you to do something that is not right… You can stand for truth. You can be firm in standing for what’s right, just like the strong wall!”

Say: “We are going to watch a story about standing up for what is right. See if you can find someone in the video who was strong like the wall!”
Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1) Which character from the story was strong like a wall? (Finley the fish.)
2) What were the other fish doing that wasn’t right? (Being mean and hurtful to the crab.)
3) After Finley stood up for the right thing, what did the other fish do? (Tied her up.)
4) Even though she was tied up, how did Finley feel in her heart? (Good.)
5) Why do you think she felt good even though she was tied up? (She knew she did the right thing.)
6) Did Finley’s friends also know that something was wrong? (Yes, they did.)
7) If they knew that something was wrong, why do you think they chose not to stand up for the right thing? (They were afraid of what others would think.)
➤ S C R I P T U R E
Explain the following before reading the scripture verses:
“We are going to read some scriptures about Abinadi and King Noah. Abinadi was a prophet who was sent by God to teach the commandments to a wicked King and his men. ”
Read the following verses together and discuss the questions that follow.
1) The scripture said King Noah was wroth! What does "wroth" mean? (Very mad!)
2) Why was Kind Noah mad? (Because Abinidai was telling the people to repent and keep thecommandments.)
3) What did King Noah say he was going to do to Abinadi? (Kill him.)
1) King Noah said he will kill Abinadi unless he takes back his words. Do you think Abinadi will be weak like the blanket? Or stand for truth like the strong wall? Why? (Discuss.)
1) Did Abinadi take back his words? Or did he stand for truth like the wall? (Discuss.)
2) Why do you think Abinadi wouldn’t take back his testimony of Jesus Christ? (Discuss.)
➤ A C T I V I T Y
Invite children to color the fish and the scene of the coral reef. Cut out the fish and glue or tape them to popsicle sticks so that children can act out the story of Finley the Fish. Use this opportunity to discuss examples from the scriptures of standing for truth.
